LEGACY IV BY TPAC AND U.S.A.

Curatorial Statement for Legacy IV: Honoring Tradition, Inspiring the Future

In its fourth iteration, Legacy IV holds profound significance as the Universal Studios of Art (USA) celebrates a milestone of forty years. Curating this exhibition is both a privilege and an opportunity to honor an institution that has been a pillar of Nigeria’s creative landscape for such an enviable period of time. Universal Studios of Art has nurtured a rich lineage of artists whose work resonates both locally and globally, embodying an ongoing dialogue between tradition, sustainability, and innovation.

Legacy IV brings together 48 artists, affirming USA’s commitment to artistic growth and inclusivity. From renowned figures like Bunmi Babatunde, Abiodun Olaku, Odogwu Fidelis, and Francis Uduh to alumni and emerging members, this exhibition highlights the diverse voices that have defined and continue to redefine the Nigerian art scene through the sacrifices invested by pioneers and teachers at the Universal Studios of Art. Each work on display reflects the unique journey of its creator while contributing to a shared USA vision—a legacy of excellence, mentorship, and artistic evolution.

This year’s exhibition also marks an intentional expansion, welcoming 17 distinguished alumni, including Wande George, Wallace Ejoh, Ezekiel Osifeso, Adam Enesi, and Emeka Amadi, alongside 29 current members. The inclusion of new talents and voices reflects USA’s openness and commitment to the future, reinforcing its role as a nurturing ground for the next generation of artists. Through their works, both alumni and new members contribute to a collective narrative that bridges generations, and perspectives.

Beyond the individual pieces, Legacy IV is a tribute to USA’s enduring influence and its role in shaping Nigeria’s artistic heritage. The institution has long been a beacon of empowerment and education, fostering a space where art transcends time and place. The works in this exhibition—ranging from paintings and mixed media to sculpture and pottery to metal collectables—showcase the depth of artistic expression cultivated at the Universal Studios of Art.
